Lynas and U.S. Government Plan Rare Earth Supply Deal
Lynas Rare Earths Ltd (ASX: LYC) has signed a binding Letter of Intent with the U.S. Department of War through its subsidiary, Lynas USA LLC, to move toward a formal agreement for supplying rare earth oxides. Under this arrangement, the U.S. government will allocate around US$96 million to purchase light and heavy rare earth products from the company over the next four years. The agreement also sets a minimum price of US$110 per kilogram for NdPr oxide, providing price certainty for the supply.
The purpose of the partnership is to strengthen the availability of rare earth materials needed for advanced manufacturing and defense-related technologies in the United States. This new plan replaces an earlier proposal connected to the possible construction of a heavy rare earth processing plant in Seadrift, Texas, which faced uncertainty. Both sides intend to continue discussions to finalize the supply contract and explore additional future cooperation on heavy rare earth products.
