Patriot Battery Metals Inc. (ASX: PMT) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Mitsui & Co., Ltd. and Microwave Chemical Co., Ltd. (MWCC) to evaluate microwave calcination technology as part of its downstream lithium processing strategy at the Shaakichiuwaanaan Project in Québec, Canada. The collaboration follows the Company’s recently announced concept study, which successfully produced 99.8% battery-grade lithium carbonate from project-derived spodumene concentrate at bench scale. Under the agreement, PMT will supply spodumene samples for pilot-scale testing in Osaka, MWCC will lead the technical assessment of its proprietary microwave calcination technology, and Mitsui will assist in evaluating future commercialisation opportunities. The initiative is designed to assess whether Québec’s low-cost renewable hydroelectricity can support electric calcination and on-site lithium chemical production, potentially reducing transportation requirements, lowering dependence on offshore processing capacity and increasing value capture within Canada. While the MOU remains non-binding, management views the partnership as an important step toward building a more integrated and resilient Western lithium supply chain.
