By the end of the trading session on 25 June 2025, the benchmark index S&P/ASX 200 closed higher by 0.04% and settled at 8,559.20. Out of the 11 sectors, 04 sectors ended higher along with the S&P/ASX 200.

Financial and Consumer Discretionary is the top-gaining sector, gaining 1.15% and 0.22% in their it’s value. On the other hand, Materials and Energy are the top-losing sector, losing 1.27% and 0.81% in their index value.

Light & Wonder Inc. (ASX: LNW) and Perpetual Limited (ASX: PPT) are the top-gaining stocks, gaining 10.480% and 4.652% in their stock prices. On the other hand, Emerald Resources NL (ASX: EMR) and Mineral Resources Limited (ASX: MIN) are the top-losing stocks, losing 10.573% and 5.965% in their stock prices.

  • Virgin Australia added 3.4% to close at $3.34 following its ASX debut on Tuesday, where it had surged 11.4% above its $2.90 offer price.
  • Greatland Gold, backed by the Forrest family, ended its first trading day on Tuesday 10.6% above its $6.60 issue price but slipped 1.4% to $7.20 on Wednesday.
  • Shares of DroneShield soared 19.9% to $2.14 after the defence tech firm secured a €61.6 million European contract for its handheld drone detection and countermeasure systems.
  • Pinnacle Investment Management fell 3.7% to $19.46 after founder Ian Macoun offloaded 3.9 million shares worth $77 million to allocate funds into private credit investments managed by Metrics, in which Pinnacle holds a one-third stake.
  • Gold prices remained under pressure as the tentative ceasefire between Iran and Israel appeared stable, easing safe-haven demand.
  • Oil prices edged upward after a sharp two-day drop, as traders considered both the Middle East truce and fresh data pointing to a continued decline in US crude inventories.
  • On the global stage, the Dow Jones gained 1.19%, the S&P 500 advanced 1.11%, and the NASDAQ climbed 1.43%.
  • Meanwhile, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index rose 1.23%, and the FTSE 100 was marginally higher, up 0.01%.
