ASX/200 Closed Lower by 0.43%, dragged down by Financial

By the end of the trading session on 27 June 2025, the benchmark index S&P/ASX 200 closed lower by 0.43% and settled at 8,514.20. Out of the 11 sectors, 03 sectors ended higher.

Materials and Information Technology is the top-gaining sector, gaining 2.27% and 0.55% in their it’s value. On the other hand, Financial and Health Care are the top-losing sector, losing 1.51% and 1.41% in their index value.

Alcoa Corporation (ASX: AAI) and Neuren Pharmaceuticals Limited (ASX: NEU) are the top-gaining stocks, gaining 7.719% and 6.686% in their stock prices. On the other hand, Reece Limited (ASX: REH) and Apa Group (ASX: APA) are the top-losing stocks, losing 18.664% and 4.010% in their stock prices.

Other Factors influencing the market:

  • Reece shares plunged by 18.7% to $14.12 after the company forecasted a decline in its FY2025 earnings, now expected to range between $548 million and $558 million—significantly lower than the $681 million reported the previous year.
  • The plumbing and bathroom supplier also announced that Ross McEwan, the former CEO of NAB, will be stepping down from its board.
  • Breville Group saw a 2.6% increase in its stock price to $29.50, following an upgrade from Jarden Securities, which revised its rating on the appliance manufacturer to “overweight”.
  • Woolworths declined by 1% to $31.14 after revealing plans to shut down its underperforming MyDeal online marketplace, acquired just three years ago. Rival Coles also slipped, falling 1.7% to $20.82.
  •  Lithium stocks extended their rally for a second day, buoyed by news that Vanguard had become a substantial shareholder in PLS (formerly Pilbara Minerals). PLS advanced 4.6% to $1.38, while IGO gained 2.7% to close at $4.12.
  • Crude oil prices were heading for their sharpest weekly drop in two years, following a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Iran. Woodside Energy edged down by 0.6% to $23.72, while Santos managed a 0.4% gain, ending the session at $7.66.
  • On the global stage, the S&P 500 advanced 0.8%, and the NASDAQ climbed 0.97%.
  • Meanwhile, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index decline 0.3%, and the FTSE 100 was marginally higher, up 0.04%.
