ASX/200 Closer Higher by 0.69%, Lifted by Materials

By the end of the trading session on 23 July 2025, the benchmark index S&P/ASX 200 closed higher by 0.69% and settled at 8,737.20. Out of 11 sectors, 10 sectors ended higher along with the S&P/ASX 200.

Materials and Energy are the top-gaining sector, gaining 1.22% and 0.82% in their it’s value. On the other hand, Utilities is the top-losing sector, losing 1.65% in it’s value.

Whitehaven Coal Limited (ASX: WHC) and Elders Limited (ASX: ELD) are the top-gaining stocks, gaining 6.528% and 6.185% in their stock prices. On the other hand, Telix Pharmaceuticals Limited (ASX: TLX) and Paladin Energy Limited (ASX: PDN) are the top-losing stocks, losing 15.128% and 11.261% in their stock prices.

  • Paladin Energy Ltd (ASX: PDN) plummeted 11.3% to $7.25 as doubts emerged among investors regarding the production and sales projections for its key Langer Heinrich Mine in Namibia. The company expects to produce between 4 million and 4.4 million pounds of uranium oxide (U3O8) this financial year.
  • Ampol Ltd (ASX: ALD) climbed 3.3% after revealing that it anticipates first-half earnings of approximately $640 million, supported by steady performance in its convenience retail segment and operations in New Zealand, despite softer fuel volumes and a weaker refining market.

  • Global indices posted varied results. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.40%, while the S&P 500 inched up 0.06%. The NASDAQ Composite slipped 0.39%. 
  • Meanwhile, the Hang Seng gained 1.62%, and the FTSE 100 added 0.50%.
