Other Factors influencing the market:

  • Star Entertainment shares plunged 16.4% to an all-time low of 9.2¢ following the collapse of its proposed Queen’s Wharf precinct sale to its Hong Kong-based joint venture partners. The company is now required to repay $41 million to the partners involved in the deal.
  • ResMed rose 1% to $42.88 after reporting stronger-than-expected earnings for the fourth quarter, driven by robust demand for its sleep apnoea devices. The company also forecasted a better-than-anticipated improvement in gross margins for the upcoming financial year.
  • Iron ore prices are set to record their first weekly decline in six weeks, despite a slight recovery on Friday. The drop comes amid weak manufacturing data out of China, which has weighed on recent momentum in the steel-making commodity.
