By the end of the trading session on 06 May 2025, the benchmark index S&P/ASX 200 closed lower by 0.08% and settled at 8,151.40. Out of the 11 sectors, 07 sectors ended lower along with the S&P/ASX 200.

Materials and A-REIT are the top-gaining sector, gaining 0.79% and 0.76% in their index value. On the other hand Healthcare and Consumer Staples are the top-losing sector, losing 1.67% and 0.45% in their index value.

Tabcorp Holdings Limited (ASX: TAH) and NextDC Limited (ASX: NXT) are the top-gaining stocks, gaining 9.210% and 8.412% in their stock prices. On the other hand, Sigma Healthcare Limited (ASX: SIG) and HMC Capital Limited (ASX: HMC) are the top-losing stocks, losing 6.191% and 6.093% in their stock prices.

  • On the commodities front, oil prices dropped after OPEC+ agreed to significantly boost output, triggering fears that the additional supply could outpace demand amid ongoing global trade tensions.
  • Wall Street posted mild losses: the Dow Jones slipped 0.24%, the S&P 500 was down 0.64%, and the NASDAQ fell 0.74%.
  • Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index rose 0.96% during today's trading session.
