ASX Response to ASIC Inquiry: Transformation, Guidance, and Key Changes
The Australian Securities Exchange (ASX: ASX) is implementing a transformation plan in response to the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) Inquiry. The final report, released in April 2026, highlighted areas requiring significant reform, particularly governance, risk management, and the clearing and settlement facilities. ASX has committed to a comprehensive action plan, including strengthening governance, enhancing leadership, and a strategic reset of the Accelerate Program, with a AU$150 million capital charge imposed by ASIC.
Regarding guidance, ASX has reaffirmed its capital expenditure (capex) guidance for FY26 between AU$170 million and AU$180 million and FY27 between AU$160 million and AU$180 million, primarily focused on technology modernization. Additionally, ASX increased its total expense growth guidance for FY26 to between 20% and 23%, due to the costs of the ASIC Inquiry. Key changes include leadership restructuring, a revised enterprise risk management framework, and independent Clearing and Settlement facility Boards.
