Bougainville Copper Ends Strategic Partnering Process for Panguna Redevelopment
Bougainville Copper Limited (ASX: BOC) has terminated its strategic partnering process related to the redevelopment of the Panguna copper mine following a decision by the Autonomous Bougainville Government (ABG). The decision follows confirmation from the Bougainville Executive Council that it has approved the engagement of L&MEL as the preferred partner for the Panguna project under a contract mining or services partnership structure. As the executive authority responsible for regulating mining activities in Bougainville, the Council’s decision effectively reshapes the project’s development pathway. In response, Bougainville Copper’s Board has ended its partner selection process and immediately concluded the engagement of its financial advisor, Grant Samuel. While the company has acknowledged the Council’s resolution, its future role in the Panguna project remains subject to further consultation with, and approval from, the ABG. Bougainville Copper stated that its level of participation in the redevelopment will be determined through ongoing discussions within the established regulatory framework
