Can Ark Mines’ Commercial-Grade Rare Earth and Titanium Products Strengthen the Development Pathway for Sandy Mitchell?
Ark Mines Limited (ASX: AHK) has reported a significant metallurgical milestone at its Sandy Mitchell Rare Earth Project in North Queensland, with test work successfully producing commercial-grade monazite and titanium products from heavy mineral concentrates derived from the project’s Mineral Resource Estimate. The study generated a high-grade rare earth concentrate grading 54.8% Total Rare Earth Oxide (TREO) plus 1.49% Y₂O₃, with NdPr oxide accounting for 23.4% of the TREO basket. In addition, the program produced a premium leucoxene concentrate grading 73.5% TiO₂, highlighting a potential secondary value stream alongside rare earths. The results demonstrate that saleable rare earth and titanium products can be recovered through relatively simple gravity, magnetic and electrostatic separation processes without chemical treatment. The ongoing study is expected to optimise additional mineral products including zircon, biotite, muscovite and garnet, while informing Stage 2 metallurgical test work currently underway. Management believes the achievement provides greater confidence in the quality of the resource and supports the project’s progression toward commercial development.
