Livium Expands into Data Centre Battery Recycling Opportunity
Livium Ltd (ASX: LIT) has expanded its strategy to capture opportunities arising from the rapid build-out of AI-driven data centres in Australia, which rely heavily on UPS backup battery systems. As these systems approach the end of their operating life, they are expected to generate an increasing and more formally regulated flow of batteries into recycling channels. The global market for data centre battery recycling is estimated at US$1.2 billion in 2025 and is forecast to exceed US$2.5 billion by 2034. Livium has begun engagement with operators and IT asset disposition partners to position its Envirostream platform as a compliant onshore solution supported by EPA-licensed processing, national collection infrastructure, and secure chain-of-custody management, particularly as operators shift from lead-acid to lithium-ion systems requiring higher standards of recycling.
Regulatory tailwinds and rising data centre power demand support growth as hyperscaler investment accelerates infrastructure build-out across Australian market conditions. Envirostream captures disposal fees and recovered minerals, while Livium aligns with future rare earth processing.
