Livium Ltd Secures Exclusive Rights to UoM Microwave Technology

Livium Ltd (ASX: LIT) has strengthened its strategic expansion into clean-energy recycling by securing exclusive global rights to the University of Melbourne’s microwave-assisted extraction technology for rare earth elements, with an additional option to extend these rights to platinum group metals. The 20-year commercialisation agreements, executed through subsidiary RCARC, support Livium’s broader adjacency strategy and complement its existing Envirostream operations.

Laboratory results demonstrate exceptional recoveries—above 95% for neodymium, more than 80% for praseodymium with scope for further improvement, and similarly high extraction rates for platinum, palladium, and rhodium. The microwave approach delivers selective, energy-efficient leaching with an estimated 85% reduction in power consumption and lower reagent and wastewater requirements compared with traditional “Hot Block’’ digestion. As global demand for REE and PGM supply chain stability intensifies amid geopolitical pressures, Livium is well-positioned to advance commercial deployment and support sustainable, circular resource recovery at scale.
