PMET Strengthens Indigenous Engagement for Shaakichiuwaanaan Project
PMET Resources Inc. (ASX: PMT) has signed a non-binding Letter of Intent (LOI) with the Cree Nation of Chisasibi to establish a structured framework for engagement, information-sharing, and assessment relating to its 100%-owned Shaakichiuwaanaan Project in Quebec, Canada. The agreement is intended to facilitate transparent dialogue, identify potential benefits and risks, and support discussions on environmental, social, and economic matters. Importantly, the LOI does not represent community consent, approval, or endorsement of the project but provides a process for continued engagement while respecting the Cree Nation’s independent governance and decision-making.
The proposed framework includes subject-specific working groups covering areas such as employment, skills development, local business participation, environmental management, and transportation. PMET noted that approximately 25% of its site workforce during 2025 comprised Cree employees, reflecting its ongoing collaboration with the local community. Alongside advancing stakeholder engagement, the company continues to develop the Shaakichiuwaanaan Project, which hosts a globally significant lithium, caesium, and tantalum resource supported by a positive feasibility study and substantial mineral reserves. The agreement reinforces PMET’s commitment to responsible project development while maintaining constructive relationships with Indigenous stakeholders throughout the assessment and permitting process.
