TG Metals Secures Intellectual Property for Improved Spodumene Recovery Process.
TG Metals Limited (ASX: TG6) has submitted a provisional patent application for a newly developed processing method aimed at improving lithium recovery from hard-rock pegmatite deposits at its Burmeister project in Western Australia. The technology enhances a hybrid flowsheet that combines dense media separation with flotation, delivering stronger spodumene selectivity, higher recoveries, and improved concentrate quality. The innovation emerged after detailed technical investigations revealed the causes of reduced lithium selectivity during downstream processing and identified a practical solution to overcome these limitations. Independent review and validation by specialist patent advisers supported the decision to formally protect the process. The upgraded flowsheet is expected to reduce processing costs and support stronger project economics as Burmeister advances through future technical studies. Beyond its application at Lake Johnston, the technology may be suitable for other lithium operations facing similar recovery challenges, opening the door to potential licensing and royalty income. To support commercialisation, TG Metals has established a dedicated subsidiary to hold and manage the intellectual property.
