Viva Energy Group Limited Receives Increased Support from the Australian Government for Domestic Refining.
Viva Energy Group Limited (ASX: VEA) has expressed its support for the Australian Federal Government's recent changes to the Geelong Refinery Fuel Security Services Payment (FSSP), announced on 20 March 2026. To address the rising costs of refinery operations, the government increased the Margin Marker cap and collar by 3.6 Australian cents per litre (Acpl), or AU$5.7 per barrel (bbl). This adjustment aims to better align the FSSP with the current operating expenses, including both regular costs and necessary long-term capital expenditures.
The revised structure ensures that FSSP support will be triggered when the Geelong Refining Margin Marker drops below 10Acpl (AU$15.9/bbl) over a calendar quarter. Viva Energy, which operates the Geelong Refinery, plays a significant role in fulfilling a large portion of Australia’s fuel requirements. Since the introduction of the FSSP in 2021, the company has invested around AU$500 million to upgrade refinery infrastructure and expand storage capabilities.
