ASX/200 Closed Higher by 1.00%, Lifted by Financial

By the end of trading session on 04 September 2025, benchmark index S&P/ASX 200 closed 1.00% lower at 8,826.50. Out of 11 sectors, 08 sectors ended higher along with the S&P/ASX 200.

Financial and Consumer Discretionary was the top-gaining sector, gaining 1.61% and 0.99% in it’s value. On the other hand, Energy and Telecommmunications Services was the top-losing sector, losing 0.93% and 0.14% in it’s value.

Iress Limited (ASX: IRE) and Neuren Pharmaceuticals Limited (ASX: NEU) are the top-gaining stocks, gaining 6.383% and 4.947% in their stock prices. On the other hand, Megaport Limited (ASX: MP1) and TPG Telecom Limited (ASX: TPG) are the top-losing stocks, losing 6.405% and 3.175% in their stock prices.

  • Domino’s Pizza shares climbed 1.4% to $14.32 after news that chairman Jack Cowin purchased roughly $5 million worth of stock in the company.
  • Iress Limited (ASX: IRE) advanced 7% to $9.05 following the announcement that Andrew Russell will take over as Chief Executive Officer, succeeding Marcus Price.
  • KMD Brands gained 2.3% to 22 cents after revealing plans to close certain stores. The owner of Rip Curl and Kathmandu said the restructuring is aimed at lifting sales and profits while restoring shareholder confidence.
  • Boom Logistics slipped 2.6% to $1.32 after the lifting and crane rental provider disclosed that former CEO Ben Pieyre had misappropriated up to $1 million in company funds.
  • Meanwhile, oil prices extended their decline on Thursday, following a drop of more than 2% in the prior session, as traders awaited the upcoming OPEC+ meeting over the weekend where production targets will be discussed.
  • On the international front, US markets closed mixed: the Dow Jones edged down 0.05%, the S&P 500 rose 0.51%, and the Nasdaq advanced 1.02%.
  • In Asia, the Hang Seng index slipped 0.89% today.
