Market Alert: Fed Cut Hopes Lift ASX After Rough Week

ANZ Restructures to Strengthen Strategic Focus

Sep 09, 2025

ANZ Group Holdings Ltd (ASX: ANZ) has announced a major restructuring aimed at simplifying operations, sharpening its focus on priorities, and enhancing customer service. The bank expects around 3,500 employees to leave by September 2026, supported by consultants and third-party reviews. Key objectives include reducing duplication and complexity, accelerating non-financial risk management practices, and ensuring investments align with strategic goals. While frontline customer roles will be minimally affected, ANZ has committed to honouring its obligations tied to the Suncorp Bank acquisition.

CEO Nuno Matos emphasized that the changes are designed to position ANZ as the leading bank for customers while sustaining long-term performance. To support affected staff, ANZ will provide career transition resources, training funds, and advisory services. The restructuring is expected to result in a pre-tax charge of approximately AU$560 million in 2H25, with final details disclosed in November 2025. A detailed strategy update will be shared with investors on 13 October 2025
