Market Alert: Trump Revives Trade War Playbook with Tariff Threats
Aurizon Group Limited (ASX: AZJ) has forecast its FY2025 underlying EBITDA to be approximately AU$1,575 million, factoring in two key financial adjustments—one related to lower volumes on the Central Queensland Coal Network (CQCN) and the other concerning Bulk contract receivables. Due to a ~10 million tonne shortfall in regulatory volume assumptions, revenue recovery will be deferred, with AU$50 million in FY2025 earnings expected to be recovered in FY2027 under the revenue cap process. Additionally, the company will raise its impairment provision for trade debtors by around AU$50 million, reflecting increased caution in Bulk receivables.
Despite these adjustments, Aurizon remains committed to its strategic initiatives. Leadership changes have also been announced, with CFO George Lippiatt appointed Group Executive of Bulk and Containerised Freight, streamlining operations and unlocking synergies. Gareth Long will act as CFO and Group Executive Strategy from 1 July 2025. This move reflects Aurizon’s push for operational efficiency as it aligns its freight divisions to drive future growth and cost-effectiveness.
