Great Northern Minerals Partners with University of Arizona on Rare Earths Technology

Great Northern Minerals Limited (ASX: GNM) has entered an exclusive binding patent option agreement with the University of Arizona to develop advanced flotation technology for bastnaesite rare earth ores, directly applicable to GNM’s Catalyst Ridge Project in the Mountain Pass District, USA.

The University’s process, which uses hydroxamic acid-based collectors, has achieved 80–90% recovery, 30–40% REO grades, and up to 50% lower reagent use, offering a more sustainable and cost-efficient pathway to rare earth production.

The collaboration includes a sponsored research program advancing the technology to pilot-scale over 24 months, targeting Technology Readiness Level 6 (TRL-6). Chairman Eddie King said the agreement strengthens GNM’s U.S. supply chain positioning and supports access to potential critical minerals funding, aligning with national security initiatives.
