Lakes Blue Energy Advances Wombat-5 Drilling with High Gas Shows

Lakes Blue Energy NL (ASX: LKO) announced that at the time of writing it has updated drilling progress at the Wombat-5 well, side-track-2, in the Gippsland Basin, Victoria. The well has reached a measured depth of 3,052m and a horizontal length of 1,500m, intersecting the target Strzelecki Formation.

Reaming and clean-out operations were completed to 2,450m, with a 900m interval containing two promising sand zones with strong gas shows. The company has decided to complete this interval using slotted casing while leaving the lower 650m as a barefoot completion to capture additional gas potential.

This strategy avoids the risks and costs of retrieving a stuck bottom hole assembly while preserving the productivity of both cased and barefoot sections. Management noted that the chosen design maximises recovery potential and ensures efficient development of the high-quality sand intervals already encountered.
