Lakes Blue Energy Provides Drilling Update on Wombat-5 Well in Gippsland Basin.

Lakes Blue Energy (ASX: LKO) has released an update on its Wombat-5 ST-2 well, located in the Gippsland Basin, Victoria. As of day 47 since spud, the well has reached a depth of 2,200m measured depth (MD) and 1,400m true vertical depth (TVD), with 678m of horizontal section drilled. The operation remains within the Strzelecki Formation, the target zone, which is anticipated at 1,410m MD and 1,356m TVD. Recent inspection of the bottom hole assembly (BHA) showed minor scouring damage, likely caused by abrasive debris.

This allowed the team to conduct a cement bond log (CBL) along the 7” casing from 1,500m MD to surface. A new directional BHA is now being deployed to clear obstructions and continue drilling ahead in a 6-1/8” hole to the planned total depth of approximately 3,050m MD. Importantly, no health, safety, or environmental incidents have been reported during the drilling operations.
