Major Flowsheet Improvements at Splinter Rock Rare Earth Project

OD6 Metals Limited (ASX: OD6) has reported significant progress in its Optioneering Study for the Splinter Rock Rare Earth Project, with CPC Engineering confirming the integration of a Chlor-Alkali Facility (CAF) as a central development feature. The CAF will produce Hydrochloric Acid (HCl) and Sodium Hydroxide (NaOH) onsite, removing the need for costly transport of liquid reagents from Perth and reducing environmental impact. Abundant solar sea salt (NaCl), widely available in Western Australia, will serve as a low-cost feedstock, further strengthening project economics.

The onsite production of reagents is expected to deliver substantial cost savings, improve financial returns, and support sustainable operations. Testwork has already demonstrated high-quality Mixed Rare Earth Hydroxide (MREH ~59% TREO) using NaOH as a precipitation agent, with the CAF also enabling selective production of Nd, Pr, Dy, and Tb oxides through a chloride-based Solvent Extraction process. Guided by ANSTO and CPC Engineering, OD6 continues to benchmark multiple flowsheets, with drilling underway to supply further material for testwork.
