Production Guidance Raised Despite Pump Issue.

Karoon Energy (ASX: KAR) has reported a technical issue at the Baúna Project in Brazil after the SPS-92 downhole pump shut down on 13 August 2025 due to an electrical cable failure. The well, which had been producing 8,500–9,000 bopd earlier in August, is currently choked back to 2,500–3,000 bopd. Partial output was restored using the remaining two electrical cables, and remediation efforts with equipment supplier SLB are underway, though full recovery will likely require a rig-based intervention in 2026.

Despite the setback, Karoon has lifted its full-year 2025 production guidance. Strong performance in the first half has led to an upgrade in Baúna production to 7.3–7.8 MMbbl (up from 6.7–7.7 MMbbl). Combined with steady output from Who Dat in the U.S., total company production is now forecast at 9.7–10.5 MMboe for 2025, reflecting resilient operations and continued growth momentum.
