Market Alert: Gold and Silver Extend Bull Run Amid Global Uncertainty

ASX/200 Closed Lower by 0.13%, Dragged down by Healthcare

By the end of trading session on 15 September 2025, benchmark index S&P/ASX 200 closed 0.13% lower at 8,853.00. Out of 11 sectors, 04 sectors ended lower along with the S&P/ASX 200.

Energy and Consumer Discretionary were the top-gaining sectors, gaining 0.64% and 0.59% in it’s value. On the other hand, Healthcare and Materials were the top-losing sectors, losing 0.84% and 0.54% in it’s value.

Pilbara Minerals Limited (ASX: PLS) and Boss Energy Limited (ASX: BOE) are the top-gaining stocks, gaining 9.090% and 7.894% in their stock prices. On the other hand, Evolution Mining Limited (ASX: EVN) and Washington H Soul Pattinson & Company Limited  (ASX: SOL) are the top-losing stocks, losing 5.253% and 5.152% in their stock prices.

Other Factors influencing the market:

  • Grain handler GrainCorp climbed 1.8% to $8.70 after Jefferies lifted its price target, supported by stronger crop forecasts. 
  • Lithium miner IGO jumped 6.7% to $4.63 following a Citi upgrade to “neutral,” rebounding from a 19% decline last month. 
  • Meanwhile, Emeco surged 7.8% to reach a four-year high after the mining services company revealed it had received unsolicited interest from potential buyers.
  • The Australian dollar is approaching a new 10-month high, buoyed by market expectations that the US Federal Reserve may cut interest rates more aggressively than the Reserve Bank of Australia.
  • Gold prices slipped on Monday amid profit-taking and a slightly stronger US dollar, though losses were limited as investors awaited the upcoming US Federal Reserve meeting, where a rate cut is anticipated following recent soft labor market data.
  • Global market movements were mixed: in the United States, the Dow Jones fell 0.48%, the S&P 500 inched up 0.30%, and the Nasdaq was virtually flat, gaining 0.03%. 
  • Meanwhile, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index declined 0.21% at the time of writing.
