Market Alert: Gold and Silver Extend Bull Run Amid Global Uncertainty

ASX/200 Closed Higher by 0.28%, Lifted by Energy

By the end of trading session on 16 September 2025, benchmark index S&P/ASX 200 closed 0.28% higher at 8,877.70. Out of 11 sectors, 08 sectors ended higher along with the S&P/ASX 200.

Energy and Consumer Discretionary were the top-gaining sectors, gaining 0.94% and 0.79% in it’s value. On the other hand, Healthcare and Consumer Staples were the top-losing sectors, losing 0.33% and 0.32% in it’s value.

Deep Yellow Limited (ASX: DYL) and Boss Energy Limited (ASX: BOE) are the top-gaining stocks, gaining 9.186% and 7.046% in their stock prices. On the other hand, Super Retail Group Limited (ASX: SUL) and Bapcor Limited  (ASX: BAP) are the top-losing stocks, losing 4.288% and 3.180% in their stock prices.

  • Super Retail Group Limited (ASX: SUL) dropped 4.3% to $16.52 after dismissing CEO Anthony Heraghty over a previously undisclosed relationship with the former chief human resources officer, making it the worst performer on the ASX 200.
  • Sigma Healthcare Limited (ASX: SIG), parent of Chemist Warehouse, inched up 0.3% to $3.01 after naming Richard Murray—former CEO of Total Tools and JB Hi-Fi—as its new chief financial officer.
  • Oil prices continued to climb, building on last week’s gains, as traders balanced efforts to restrict Russian supply with projections of a surplus later this year.
  • Australian energy stocks may be poised for a multi-year upswing, with global demand growth expected to outpace supply and keep prices elevated.
  • Global equity markets showed mixed moves: in the U.S., the Dow Jones lost 0.48%, the S&P 500 rose 0.30%, and the Nasdaq added just 0.03%. 
  • Meanwhile, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng gained 0.18%, while London’s FTSE 100 slipped 0.07%.
