By the end of trading session on 30 September 2025, benchmark index S&P/ASX 200 closed 0.85% lower at 8,848.80. Out of 11 sectors, 09 sectors ended lower along with the S&P/ASX 200.

Materials and Industrials were the top-gaining sectors, gaining 0.89% and 0.19% in their values. On the other hand, Energy and Telecommunications Services were the top-losing sectors, losing 1.59% and 0.94% in their values

IDP Education Limited (ASX: IEL) and Droneshield Limited (ASX: DRO) are the top-gaining stocks, gaining 16.077% and 5.909% in their stock prices. On the other hand, Iperionx Limited (ASX: IPX) and Beach Energy Limited (ASX: BPT) are the top-losing stocks, losing 5.277% and 3.3%76 in their stock prices.

  • Restaurant Brands New Zealand Limited (NZX: RBD) jumped 59.3% to $4.30 after receiving a takeover bid from its majority shareholder, Mexican firm Finaccess Restauración, offering NZ$5.05 (A$4.44) per share.
  • IDP Education Limited (ASX: IEL) emerged as the top performer on the ASX 200, soaring 16.1% to $6.57, despite having no new announcements. The company remains the third most shorted stock on the ASX.
  • Star Entertainment Group Limited (ASX: SGR) saw trading resume, with its shares rising 1.1% to 9¢ after the casino operator confirmed it had concluded discussions with its lenders.
  • The Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) kept the cash rate unchanged at 3.6% but warned that inflation may surpass its earlier projections.
  • The Australian dollar strengthened to US65.98¢ from US65.87¢ after the RBA’s rate decision, as the bank signalled that the September quarterly inflation report could come in higher than anticipated.
  • On global markets, the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 0.15%, the S&P 500 advanced 0.26%, and the Nasdaq Composite rose 0.48%.
  • Meanwhile, the Hang Seng Index climbed 0.73%, while the FTSE 100 slipped 0.06%.
