By the end of the trading session on 22 April 2025, the benchmark index S&P/ASX 200 closed lower by 0.03% and settled at 7,816.70. Out of 11 sectors, 08 sectors ended lower along with the S&P/ASX 200.

Financial and Consumer Staples are the top-gaining sectors, gaining 1.23% and 0.33% in their index values. Meanwhile, Information Technology and Energy is the top-losing sector, losing 2.26% and 1.91% in their index values.

West African Resources Limited (ASX: WAF) and Evolution Mining Limited (ASX: EVN) are the top-gaining stocks, gaining 6.611% and 4.846% in their stock prices. On the other hand, Paladin Energy Limited (ASX: PDN) and Zip Co Limited (ASX: ZIP) are the top-losing stocks, losing 12.528% and 9.037% in their stock prices.

  • U.S. stock indices closed lower overnight, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average losing 2.48%, the S&P 500 declining 2.36%, and the NASDAQ retreating 2.55%.
  • In today’s session, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index is up 0.58%, while London’s FTSE 100 has edged down 0.08%.
