Market Alert: Gold and Silver Extend Bull Run Amid Global Uncertainty

The ASX 200 closed 0.32% lower, Dragged down by industrial sector

By the end of the trading session on 24 July 2025, the benchmark index S&P/ASX 200 closed lower by 0.32% and settled at 8,709.40. Out of the 11 sectors, 10 sectors ended lower along with the S&P/ASX 200.

Health Care is the top-gaining sector, gaining 1.04% in it’s value. On the other hand, Industrials and A-Reit are the top-losing sector, losing 1.17% and 1.08% in their index value.

Pexa Group Limited (ASX: PXA) and Clarity Pharmaceuticals Ltd (ASX: CU6) are the top-gaining stocks, gaining 16.525% and 10.230% in their stock prices. On the other hand, Bapcor Limited (ASX: BAP) and Boss Energy Ltd (ASX: BOE) are the top-losing stocks, losing 28.376% and 6.435%in their stock prices.

Other Factors influencing the market:

  • Macquarie Group fell 5.1% to $213.84 after announcing the departure of long-serving CFO Alex Harvey.
  • Gold prices declined to US$3447/oz, down about US$7 from Wednesday, as easing global trade tensions reduced demand for safe-haven assets.
  • Northern Star fell 2.0% to $16.27 after announcing it would eliminate its forward hedging policy to benefit from higher gold prices. The company also acknowledged production challenges at its Super Pit mine in Kalgoorlie.
  • CSL Ltd rose 1.5% to $269.56, bringing its total gain since June 27 to 15%, as healthcare stocks rebounded.
  • Ansell gained 1.1% to $31.10, while Sonic Healthcare added 1.3% to $28.32. ResMed and Cochlear also closed higher ahead of ResMed’s upcoming results release.
  • Lynas Rare Earths surged 5.0% to $10.65 after signing an MoU with Korean firm JS Link for a magnet manufacturing and supply partnership.
  • Karoon Energy declined 2.8% to $1.91 despite increased production, after posting a 24.9% YoY fall in June quarter revenue.
  • On the global stage, the Dow Jones gained 1.14%, the S&P 500 advanced 0.78%, and the NASDAQ climbed 0.61%.
  • Meanwhile, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index rose 0.5%, and the FTSE 100 was marginally higher, up 0.3%.
