Market Alert: Gold and Silver Extend Bull Run Amid Global Uncertainty

Australian Dollar and Yields Rise on Strong Inflation Data

Sep 24, 2025

Highlights:

  • The Australian dollar edged higher to US66.07¢ at the time of writing, up from US65.91¢.
  • Bond yields gained, with the three-year yield at 3.49% and the 10-year at 4.29%.
  • August’s CPI reading came in above forecasts, strengthening the view that the Reserve Bank of Australia will leave interest rates unchanged.

Aussie Dollar Strengthens

The Australian dollar moved higher on Wednesday after fresh inflation figures surprised to the upside. The currency rose to US66.07¢ at the time of writing, compared to US65.91¢ in the previous session. Confidence is building in financial markets that the RBA will refrain from altering its policy settings at the next meeting.

Bond Yields Edge Higher

The stronger inflation print also pushed government bond yields upward. The three-year bond yield, which is sensitive to policy shifts, gained 4 basis points to 3.49%, while the 10-year yield rose 3 basis points to 4.29%. Rising yields suggest investors are adjusting expectations for a prolonged period of elevated interest rates, even if the RBA holds steady in the short term.

Inflation Data and RBA Outlook

The monthly consumer price indicator for August came in hotter than forecast, underlining persistent inflationary pressures in the economy. While the RBA is not widely expected to cut or raise rates immediately, the stronger reading supports the case for keeping monetary policy restrictive for longer.

Analysts suggest the central bank may adopt a cautious tone at its upcoming meeting, balancing inflation concerns with risks of slowing growth. For now, the latest inflation data has strengthened the Australian dollar and lifted bond yields, as markets brace for the RBA’s next move.
