BPH Global Expands Seaweed Sampling to Assess Rare Earth and Metal Uptake

BPH Global Ltd (ASX: BP8) has initiated new seaweed sampling across the Johor Strait to assess concentrations of gold, silver, copper, nickel, and four rare earth elements—Lanthanum, Terbium, Yttrium, and Neodymium. Conducted in collaboration with Marchwood Laboratory Services (MLS), the study aims to measure how industrial and maritime influences affect mineral accumulation in naturally growing seaweed. Seaweed specimens were gathered from both the eastern and western ends of the strait, allowing the study to capture and compare a wide range of environmental variations. Using advanced ICP-MS technology, MLS will perform assays within 5–7 business days to evaluate bioaccumulation levels. This initiative builds on prior research indicating seaweed’s ability to act as a natural absorber of minerals from contaminated waters. The findings are expected to advance BP8’s efforts in developing seaweed-based solutions for environmental remediation and sustainable mineral recovery.
