Lithium Universe Expands with Second Lithium Refinery in Texas

Lithium Universe Limited (ASX: LU7) has unveiled plans for a second lithium carbonate refinery in Brownsville, Texas, complementing its flagship Bécancour project in Québec. This initiative aims to address North America’s “Lithium Conversion Gap” — the shortage of local refining capacity critical to electric vehicle and battery production. The Brownsville site, located within the Port of Brownsville’s industrial park, offers significant logistical advantages including direct maritime access, low labour costs, and streamlined permitting. Designed as a “copy-and-paste” model of the proven Bécancour refinery, the Texas facility will feature two refinery trains capable of producing over 36,000 tonnes annually. The project aligns with U.S. policy incentives under the Inflation Reduction Act and benefits from proximity to Tesla’s Corpus Christi refinery and SpaceX’s Starbase. Together, LU7’s dual refineries in Canada and the U.S. will form a trans-Atlantic lithium platform supporting the clean energy transition
