Market Alert : Escalating Middle East Conflict and New U.S. Tariffs Heighten Global Market Risks

ASX 200 Slipped 0.69%; 10 Out Of 11 Sectors Closed Lower

By the end of the trading session on 26 May 2022, the benchmark index S&P/ASX 200 ended lower by 0.69% and settled at 7105.90. 10 out of 11 sectors closed lower along with the ASX 200. The Information Technology was the only gaining sector, gained 1.02% in its index value. On the other hand, the Consumer Staples and Utilities sectors were the top 2 losing sectors, declined 2.46% and 1.22% in their index values.

S&P/ASX 200 dragged down as the investors reacted cautiously after minutes from the Federal Reserve's early May meeting. Most participants backed half-percentage point rate hikes in June and July, and as persistent concerns over global growth sapped confidence.

Appen Limited (ASX: APX) and ALS Limited (ASX: ALQ) were the top gainers with 29.218% and 6.078% growth in share prices, respectively. On the other hand, Endeavour Group Limited (ASX: EDV) and Nanosonics Limited (ASX: NAN) were the top losers, with a 6.006% and 5.685% drop in the share price, respectively.
