  • Company secures exclusive rights over 185 hectares of strategic land at Weddell to advance project planning.
  • Proposal aims to create a long-term domestic gas market while supporting AI-driven digital infrastructure.

Beetaloo Energy Australia Limited (ASX: BTL) has taken a significant step beyond traditional energy development by unveiling Beetaloo Digital, a wholly owned subsidiary focused on establishing an integrated gas-powered data centre and energy hub in the Northern Territory. The announcement coincided with the company's shares climbing 13.73% to AU$0.290, reflecting investor interest in the proposed expansion into digital infrastructure. The initiative is expected to leverage Beetaloo Energy's gas resources while targeting growing demand from artificial intelligence, cloud computing and hyperscale data centres.

Strategic Land Secures the Next Phase

The Northern Territory Government has granted the company exclusive access to 185 hectares of contiguous land at Weddell, south of Darwin. The arrangement provides Beetaloo Energy with greater certainty to progress pre-FEED studies, engage potential consortium partners and refine project planning. The greenfield site is positioned close to existing transport, pipeline and subsea cable infrastructure, offering favourable conditions for a large-scale integrated energy and digital development.

Linking Gas Resources with Digital Demand

The proposed development is designed to create a vertically integrated business model, combining upstream gas production with power generation and hyperscale data centre infrastructure. Management believes continuous energy demand from AI and cloud computing facilities could establish a durable domestic market for Beetaloo Basin gas while supporting long-term commercial growth. The company is also advancing discussions with prospective joint venture and infrastructure partners to move the project toward the next stage of development.

Positioning Darwin as a Digital Infrastructure Hub

Darwin's proximity to Asia-Pacific markets, established subsea cable connections and planned energy infrastructure form part of the project's strategic appeal. The proposed development is intended to complement renewable generation by supplying firm gas-fired power while supporting the region's digital infrastructure ambitions. However, the project remains subject to concept studies, consortium agreements and the necessary regulatory approvals before construction can commence.Note: All data presented is based on information available at the time of writing.Disclaimer for Kapitales ResearchThe materials provided by Kapitales Research, including articles, news, data, reports, opinions, images, charts, and videos ("Content"), are intended for personal, non-commercial use only.
