Market Alert: Global Equity Markets Under Pressure Amid Valuation Concerns and Economic Uncertainty
Highlights:
Shares of News Corporation (ASX: NWS) surged during Friday’s session after the media and publishing group reported quarterly results that exceeded market expectations. At the time of writing, News Corp’s share price was trading around $46.98, up 4.4%, reflecting renewed investor confidence in the company’s diversified earnings base.
For the September quarter, News Corp reported revenue of US$2.14 billion, outperforming analyst estimates. The performance was supported primarily by continued strength in the Dow Jones business segment—that includes The Wall Street Journal—and the group’s digital real estate services operations. These areas helped to counter softness in the company’s Australian print advertising division, where demand remains subdued.
Digital and Data Services Drive Growth
The Dow Jones unit delivered higher professional information services revenue, driven by stronger subscriptions and increased enterprise client demand for financial and corporate intelligence products. Meanwhile, the company’s real estate platforms benefited from improved digital listing engagement and stability in certain housing markets.
Management highlighted the transition toward recurring digital subscription revenue as central to improving earnings quality and reducing exposure to cyclical advertising trends.
Advertising Weakness Continues, But Outlook Steady
While print advertising in Australia remained challenged due to softer economic conditions and shifting advertiser spending patterns, executives indicated that cost discipline and portfolio diversification
continue to buffer the company’s financial performance.
News Corp reaffirmed its focus on expanding premium digital content, data analytics services, and subscription-led revenue streams, positioning the business for more resilient growth going forward.
Investors appeared encouraged by the results, with the stock seeing strong buying interest following the update.
